Google Classroom is a digital hub where students, teachers, and supporters of both can engage and collaborate. You can create user-friendly quizzes and assignments, along with supporting materials, in just a few clicks. All you need is a free Google account.

To get started, open your web browser, and go to classroom.google.com . Sign in to your Google account, and then either create a class or click an existing one. Once you're in a class, click the "Classwork" tab, click "Create," and then select "Quiz Assignment."

Google Classroom Create Quiz

The quiz assignment form is identical to the basic assignment option, with the addition of a blank Google Form that will serve as your quiz. You can use both the assignment and quiz again later.

In the quiz assignment menu, give your quiz a title, and then provide additional instructions, if necessary.

Click "Add" if you want to attach a file from Google Drive, a web link, your computer, or YouTube. You can also click "Create" to automatically create and attach a file from Google Docs , Slides , Sheets , Drawings , or Forms .

For any additional attachments, click the drop-down menu within each assignment to choose whether students can view or edit that file. You can also choose to make copies of a file for each student.

Google Classroom Quiz Create Attachment

If you attach any files other than the initial blank quiz in Google Forms, Grade importing is automatically disabled. This feature sends the results of the Quiz to the Grades tab on the main page of your class. If you want to disable this feature with only one attachment, toggle-Off the "Grade Importing" option.

Google Classroom Grade Importing

You can use the drop-down menus on the left to select assignees, set the point value of the Quiz, and its due date. You can also associate your Quiz with an existing topic or create a new one. If you want to add customizable criteria you'll use to evaluate submissions, click "Rubric."

Finally, select the  "Originality Reports"  checkbox if you want to check submissions for possible plagiarism. Note that free Google Classroom accounts are limited to three originality reports per class, though.

Google Classroom Quiz Settings

Click "Blank Quiz" to customize your quiz in Google Forms.

Google Blank Quiz

This opens your quiz in a separate window. All changes you make will save automatically. When you load your first Google Form, you're given a quick tour of the interface.

Click the title field to edit the name of your quiz form, and then type your questions in the questions field. By default, the first question will be set as "Multiple Choice."

To change this, click the drop-down menu on the right. You can then change your questions to short answers, checkboxes, drop-downs, grids, dates, or times. You can also use the sidebar on the right to add or import questions, sections, or files.

Google Form Quiz Interface

After you add all of your questions, close your browser window. Back in the Google Classroom quiz assignment window, click "Assign" at the top right. Select the arrow next to "Assign" if you want to save your quiz as a draft or schedule it for a future date.

Google Classroom Assign

When your Quiz is ready, it appears in a list under the Classwork tab of your class. There, you can also see how many students have turned it in. Click "View Assignment" to open a more detailed view.

The Quiz option in Google Classroom is an easy way for students and teachers to engage, as well as assign and complete coursework. You can also use these forms to create surveys, essays, and more.

Instead of taking a quiz on paper, you can utilize Google Classroom to create and conduct an online quiz for students. The app allows you to add or edit questions, set a due date and time, schedule the quiz for later, add attachments, assign the quiz to students, and much more.

The best thing is that it automatically grades the students if you’ve entered the answer key. But how to create a quiz for students in Google Classroom? In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to create a quiz in Google Classroom and cover everything there is to know about the app.

The customization options are so vast that you can create a quiz according to your preferences without any difficulties.

However, Google Classroom is not the only LMS (learning management system) out there. In fact, the competition is so fierce that every application tries to squeeze in as many features as possible. quiz assignment in google classroom

We’re halfway through 2020. This week I’m taking some time off from the blog to work on some other projects. The rest of this week I’m going to re-run some of the most popular posts and videos of the year so far.  As the spring went on and it became clear that school was going to be entirely online for an extended, indefinite period of time I started to get a lot of questions about how to deliver timed assessments online. In particular, a lot of people wanted to know if it was possible to do that through Google Classroom and Google Forms. In this video I demonstrate how to create and distribute a timed quiz in Google Classroom.

Step-by-step directions: 1. Create a new quiz assignment in Classwork in Google Classroom. 2. Create your quiz in the Google Form that was created by step 1 above. 3. Install the FormLimiter add-on for Google Forms. 4. Enable a date and time limit in the FormLimiter add-on. 5. Use the scheduling tool in Google Classroom to make your quiz live at a specific time.

Google Classroom is an incredible platform from Google that you can use to deliver courses and teach students, online. The platform lets you share files, create assignments, and communicate with your students, virtually.

The good news is that the platform is completely free to use. So, in this post, I will be showing you how to create a quiz assignment for your students in Google Classroom.

How to Create a Quiz Assignment

Other Quiz Setup Options

There’s an option to include a title for your quiz as well as an option to put in instructions or messages for your students.

You also have the option to attach files (anything relating to your quiz) from Google Drive, YouTube, or link to your quiz. So, when your students take the quiz, they’ll be able to see the attached file as a resource to help them during the quiz.

On the right side of your screen, you will see the option to select class, an option to select specific students for the quiz (by default, it is set to ‘ All Student ‘), another option to input the total number of point for the quiz, and another option to set a due date and time.

3. After adding the quiz title, instructions, and other settings, click on the default Google form ( Blank Quiz ) created, and it will take you to Google forms where you can then set your quiz questions.

6. To add another question, click the plus (+) icon to the right side of the screen.

Other Things to Note

If you want Google classroom to automatically mark the answers, click on the ‘ Answer Key ‘ option, and then provide the right answer. Also, if you would like to make a question compulsory for students to answer before a submission is possible, toggle-on the ‘ Required ‘ option at the bottom- right corner of the Google form page.

7. Once you’re done with your quiz set up on the Google form, close the page and go back to the quiz assignment page.

Google Classroom: When to Use the Different Assignments & How to Assign Work

Samuel J Tan Classroom Technology , Learning , Popular , Technology , Tutorials , VLEs 0

Here is a guide to set the different assignments under the Classwork tab in Google Classroom. This brief tutorial shows the different options; assignment, quiz assignment, question and material, when and how to assign them.

Table of Contents

The object of this tutorial is to give you an overview of what you can achieve with the different assignments supported on Google Classroom. You will need to first head over to the Classwork tab, second after Stream on the top once you are inside your classroom. This tutorial assumes that you have created your first classroom. You can see how to start your own virtual classroom in under 2 minutes for help. We will cover the following:

  • create assignments and questions
  • use topics to organise classworks into modules or units
  • order work by dragging them up or down in Classwork page

Types of Assignment

There are four types of assignments you can create on Google Classroom. They are as follows:

  • Assignment (points awarded, good for final assignment with manual marking and use of Rubric)
  • Quiz assignment (points awarded, good for automatic marking and grading)
  • Question (no points awarded, good for single question quick survey, short answer, multiple choice)
  • Material (no points awarded, good for reading assignment or lesson preparations)

Apart from the above, you have the ability to reuse existing post and create topic header. The former lets you reuse posts you have published on Stream in this or other Classes. The latter is topic header you can add to organise the classwork by modules or units. Let’s start looking at each of these different classwork, when to use them and how to create them.

A. Assignment

Probably the most commonly used classwork is the assignment. Here you can pick one of the following top options when creating an assignment. Beyond filling in the title and instruction, choose to:

  • Add an existing resource: Google Drive , Link , File or YouTube
  • Create a new document: create a new Google Docs , Slides , Sheets , Drawings or Forms

The first option allows you to add a Google Drive, Link to web resources, upload or choose an online file to add to Classroom’s Google Drive. You can use this to assign work like “access the work files or resources in Google Drive”, “revise or research using this link”, “download, open and read the document attached” and “watch this video tutorial or recorded seminar”.

The second option lets you create online documents. This can be a word document, slide presentation file, spreadsheet, drawing or forms. There is no need to upload a document. Here is where your assignment is created and marked totally online. Use the option to assigning a copy to each student and marking them separately with in-line feedback, grade and comments.

As you can see Assignment covers a lot of grounds in terms of resources and online document format supported.

Step by Step Guide on How to Create an Assignment using Google Docs

Here is how to create an online assignment using Google Docs. [number correspond to image in gallery below]

  • Open your class
  • Click on the second tab, Classwork
  • Click “ + Create ” button and choose Assignment

  • Click “ + Create ” button and choose Docs [4]
  • A new tab will open to show the new Google Docs [5]
  • Change the title of the document by clicking on Untitled document (top left corner)
  • Enter the instruction for assignment into the body, look for  All changes saved in Drive  status in top bar then close tab and return to previous Assignment tab [5]
  • Don’t worry if the document still says Untitled document, next to this click drop down menu and choose Make a copy for each student . [6]
  • Complete the options in the right side bar (for course, all or select students, grade points, due date, topic and marking rubric (optional) then click Assign button. [7]

NOTE: You can also choose to Schedule the assignment, save or discard draft by clicking on the drop down arrow next to the Assign button.

You will then be returned to the Classwork page where you can see the assignment you have just created, click on it to open a summary card. [8]

B. Quiz Assignment

Based on Google Forms, the quiz is the other assignment you can create as classwork. This is great to gauge the students understanding of the subject. Like any questionnaire or form, you can use different field types when designing your form.

Step by Step Guide on How to Create an Quiz Assignment

  • Click “ + Create ” button and choose Quiz Assignment
  • A new pop-up window will appear, enter the Title and Instructions for this quiz
  • Click on the Blank Quiz link to open the Google Forms file. Click on the title Blank Quiz to change this and start editing the quiz by completing and adding more questions including answers and points for automatic marking.
  • Once you have completed your editing, look for All changes saved in Drive , close the tab and return to previous Assignment tab.
  • Complete the options in the right side bar (for course, all or select students, grade points, due date, topic and marking rubric (optional) then click Assign button.

You will then be returned to the Classwork page where you can see the assignment you have just created, click on it to open a summary card.

C. Question

The third type of assignment is Question. This is more of a simple single question survey with option to choose between a short answer or multiple choice answer. Nothing more beyond that. It is probably the quickest to set up and least complicated. This is useful to get quick answers from the group. Students can be allowed to see everyones answers and change their answer. No points can be awarded for this assignment.

  • Complete the options in the right side bar; class(es) the Question is for, assign to All or specific students, Points, Due date and Topic. Also choose if other students can reply to each other and edit their answer if Short answer is chosen. Or, choose if students can see class summary if Multiple choice is chosen.
  • Click the Ask button when ready.

D. Material

The last and final assignment is the Material. Here you can assign learning materials for students to study and prepare. As before, you can upload a resource or create online file as material. Like Questions assignment type, no points can be awarded for Material assignment type.

Step by Step Guide on How to Create Material as Assignment

  • Click “ + Create ” button and choose Material
  • In the pop-up window, complete Title and Description field
  • Choose to add a resource or + create online document

Google Classroom's intuitive interface and powerful features make it an ideal platform to incorporate quizzes into your teaching methodology. Start incorporating quizzes today and witness the positive impact it has on student engagement and academic success.

  • Keep the quiz questions concise and clear to avoid any confusion.
  • Leverage the variety of question types available to assess different aspects of student knowledge.
  • Consider using a mix of formative and summative quizzes to gauge student progress effectively.

Can I add images or videos to my quiz questions in Google Classroom?

Yes, you can enhance your quiz questions by adding images or embedding videos directly into the question prompt.

How can I review and grade the quizzes submitted by my students?

Google Classroom provides a streamlined grading system where you can easily review and grade student quizzes. Simply access the "Grades" section in your class to view and provide feedback on student submissions.

Is it possible to set a time limit for completing the quiz?

Currently, Google Classroom does not have a built-in feature to set a time limit for completing quizzes. However, you can specify a due date to ensure students complete the quiz within a given timeframe.

Can students see the correct answers after submitting the quiz?

As an educator, you have the option to release the correct answers to students either immediately after they submit the quiz or at a later time. This allows students to review their performance and learn from their mistakes.

Are there any options for randomizing the order of quiz questions?

Yes, Google Classroom provides the functionality to shuffle the order of quiz questions. This feature helps prevent cheating and ensures each student receives a unique quiz experience.

Can I reuse the same quiz for multiple classes in Google Classroom?

Absolutely! You can reuse quizzes across different classes in Google Classroom by importing or copying the quiz assignment to the desired class. This saves time and effort in creating the same quiz multiple times.

What options are available for providing feedback to students after they complete the quiz?

Google Classroom allows you to provide feedback to students by using grading comments or by attaching additional resources, such as links or documents, to guide their understanding. This personalized feedback helps students learn from their quiz performance.

How to create assignments and quizzes in google classroom.

Do iT Yourself Guide on how to create assignments in Google Classroom?

Keeping your students engaged and learning at home is important to make sure they don’t fall behind. Also, it’s important that your students are familiar with this platform before creating your first assignment. We recommend setting aside time for a class tutorial on Google Classroom before diving in head first.

How to Create an Assignment

To create an assignment in Google Classroom, follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to your Google Classroom.
  • Choose the particular class you’ll be assigning this work to. Then click “Classwork”.
  • At the top of the page, you’ll see a button labeled “Create”. Click “Create”.
  • A drop-down menu will appear. Choose “Assignment”.

quiz assignment in google classroom

From here, you will be able to easily create coursework for your entire class. On this page, you can give your assignment a title and include details that explain how to successfully complete it. You can also easily add attachments (like rubrics, visual aids, and helpful examples) from your Google Drive or desktop that could be helpful to your class.

Additionally, teachers have the option to post a new assignment to more than one class. To do this, choose “Class” in the upper right-hand corner, and a drop-down menu will appear displaying all of your available classes.

Teachers can also choose to assign tasks only to certain students. Select “All Students”, and a drop-down menu will appear that will allow you to: assign to all students, assign to certain small groups, or assign only to select students.

Next, before submitting this assignment to your class, add a grade category and choose a point value. To choose a grade category, simply choose either “Test”, “Quiz”, or “Homework” from the grade category drop-down menu. For this example, we chose “Homework”.

quiz assignment in google classroom

To give your assignment a point value, simply enter a new value in the “Points” drop-down menu on the right hand side of your assignment screen. Please note that all assignments will be set to 100 points by default, so be sure to double check this portion before submitting.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Finally, teachers should assign a due date for students before giving coursework over to them. In Google Classroom, no assignment will have a due date by default; you must add this. Giving a due date to your assignment is easy: just click the drop-down menu under “Due” in the right hand side of your screen. From here, you can choose a date and time from the calendar that will appear. If students do not turn in their assignment before your chosen date and time, it will automatically be marked “Missing” in your Google Classroom.

How to Create a Quiz

Creating a quiz in Google Classroom is similar to creating an assignment. Quizzes utilize Google Forms, which makes navigating digital quizzes easy for students. To create a quiz in Google Classroom, follow the steps below:

  • A drop-down menu will appear. Choose “Quiz assignment”.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Once you’ve followed our steps above, you can enter the necessary information for completing this quiz. We also recommend turning on “Lock Mode” so that your students are unable to open additional web pages while taking a quiz. To do this, simply move the toggle labeled “Locked Mode on Chromebooks” to the “On” position. Additionally, you can automatically import your quiz grades to your grade books by moving the toggle labeled “Grade Importing” to the “On” position.

Teachers can also modify the class or students this quiz is assigned to, the total point value, and due date by following the same steps above for homework assignments.

Educating the students of the world has its challenges, but teachers now face new unknowns teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. How to Make Assignments in Google Classroom

quiz assignment in google classroom

New to the digital teaching world and looking for a quick way to add assignments to Google Classroom?

Here are 8 easy steps on how to get started.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Open your Google Classroom page in your browser. Google Classroom will automatically open up to the Stream tab. Think of the Stream tab as the notification center, similar to the homepage on Facebook. Here, students will see announcements, classwork, questions, and resources.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Select the Classwork tab. This is where you will see and add assignments.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Click the Create button and select “Assignment” from the list.

You can also select the options: Quiz assignment, Question, Material, or Reuse post.

Here’s a mini explanation of each.

  • Quiz assignment : Uses Google Forms to auto-grade assessments.
  • Question: Post a quick, open-ended question for students to answer from the Stream page.
  • Material: Need to quickly share a digital resource with students? Select Material from the list and add a link, PDF, or video for students to view.
  • Reuse post: Find yourself retyping instructions again and again? Select Reuse post from the list to use a previous post as a template.

When creating an assignment, you will want to complete the following steps:

  • Title your assignment
  • Write instructions
  • Select which subject this assignment is for
  • Create a point value (if the assignment is being graded)
  • Select a due date
  • Select or create a topic (This will make it easy for you and your students to filter through assignments throughout the school year. I’d suggest not skipping this step!)
  • Select which students should complete this assignment. (This is a great way to differentiate!)

quiz assignment in google classroom

Select the Add button and select the source where you will be attaching your resource from. If your assignment is interactive, you’ll most likely select Google Drive.

If you have purchased your assignment through Teachers Pay Teachers you’ll want to make sure that you have made a copy of the resource to your Google Drive. You can do this by selecting File -> Make Copy within the resource or through a special link provided to you by the Teachers Pay Teachers author.

Don’t Forget: You must make your own copy of the resource and add it to your Google Drive account before posting to Google Classroom.

quiz assignment in google classroom

Find the assignment you’d like students to complete and click the Add button.

quiz assignment in google classroom

The next step is important. Select the dropdown menu to the right of

the assignment. Select the option “Make a copy for each student” from the menu list. If you do not select this option students will open the same Google resource and will be able to edit the same document. (Cue the raised hands or emails!) It can make for quite a mess.

Just as you would pass out a paper-based assignment in class to each student, be sure to select “Make a copy for each student” from the menu list.

Once selected, review your assignment, and press the Assign button.

Once you have assigned your assignment you will be redirected to the teacher page. From here you will see which students you’ve assigned work to and how many have completed the assignment. This page will help you keep track of your students’ work!

That’s it! Now you’re ready to assign your first assignment in Google Classroom!

How to Convert Google Slides to Powerpoint – Digital Learning Hack

Have you ever downloaded a teaching resource to find that it was created in Google Slides, but you need to use it in PowerPoint?

Hi, I’m Jenn, CEO and owner of The Teacher Next Door!

I know that you strive to be an effective upper elementary teacher while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

In order to do that, you need resources that are impactful, yet simple .

The problem is that most resources and curriculums out there are far from simple. The pages upon pages of daily lesson plans are just plain overwhelming .

At TTND, we believe teachers should be living their lives outside of the classroom, and not spend hours lesson planning and searching for resources.

We understand that now, more than ever, teachers need space to be themselves which is why we create and support teachers with timesaving tips and standards-aligned resources.

In Google Classroom on the Classwork tab you can create assignments. One of the choices is “Quiz Assignment.” DO NOT USE THIS!

Create Quiz Assignment

It is an Assignment with a blank Google Form

What is the difference between assignment and “Quiz assignment”? They are both assignments. You can edit, score, and reuse. Quiz assignment adds a blank Google Form for you that has the quiz setting turned on. You do not need this.

EASY to Add Blank Form to Regular Assignment

In a regular assignment click on “Create” and add a Google Form. Easy Peasy. It’s exactly the same thing other than you have to set the quiz and select to import grades. It seems nice to have a couple of less clicks BUT…

Create a Google Form in a google classroom assignment

Quiz Assignment Adds Funky Code to your Form

“Quiz Assignment” does not just save you a few clicks. It does funky things to your Form in the background. You can’t tell… but some code is added to your Form that gives you less control over your Form and how you reuse it. It’s very annoying. And unnecessary.

Make a Form

I almost never make my Google Forms from blank inside of Google Classroom. Usually I already have my Form. Go to forms.google.com and click “Quiz” if you want to have the quiz toggle pre done for you. No matter what you need to go check the quiz settings and other settings in the Google Form. So having quiz pre toggled is not much of a time saver. But it’s kinda nice to get it started.

http://forms.google.com with quiz form as an option

Filter for Google Forms

It is a mystery to me why Google Products such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms do not have a Share to Classroom button. It has a share to Facebook or Twitter option… So since Forms does not allow you to direct share to Classroom simply create an assignment in Google Classroom and click on the “Add” button and choose Google Drive.

3 thoughts on “ google classroom: do not use quiz assignment ”.

Using Quiz assignments with Google Forms makes it so that when the students click Submit on the Google Form it automatically marks as done in Google Classroom.

Also, you can delete the blank quiz that it automatically adds and upload your own.

I just learned this and it has been a huge help so that my Google Form assignments are automatically marked as done in Google Classroom.

Do some research and try it out! I have never used the quiz assignment option before because I didn’t think you could reuse form but you can.

However I do have some students who have completed the form and then clicked ‘Submit’ and after I clicked the ‘View Submission’ button it had no files attached…

Not sure what you mean by “files attached”

  • Click Schedule . The question will automatically post at the scheduled date and time. Note: Scheduled questions might be delayed up to 5 minutes after the post time.

To see scheduled and draft questions, click Classwork .

Note: If a question is posted to several classes, editing it in one class doesn't change it in any other class.

When you create a question, you can instruct students to leave class comments. In both multiple-choice and short-answer questions, students can read and respond to class comments. Students can also comment privately to teachers.
