Bipin Rawat Biography in Telugu – బిపిన్ రావత్ జీవిత చరిత్ర

బిపిన్ రావత్ indian armed forces కి చెందిన మొట్ట మొదటి చీఫ్ అఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ స్టాఫ్ (CDS). ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీ కి  చెందిన అన్ని ఫోర్సెస్ కి బిపిన్ రావత్ నాయకత్వం వహించేవారు. 

బిపిన్ రావత్ యొక్క కుటుంబం తరాల నుంచి ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీ యొక్క సేవలలో పనిచేస్తుంది.

బిపిన్ రావత్ 16 మార్చి 1958 వ సంవత్సరంలో ఉత్తరాఖండ్ లోని పౌరి అనే పట్టణం లో జన్మించారు. బిపిన్ రావత్ గారి కుటుంబం కొన్ని తరాల నుంచి ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీ లో సేవలను అందిస్తూ వస్తుంది. 

బిపిన్ రావత్ గారి తండ్రి లక్ష్మణ్ సింగ్ రావత్ ఇండియా ఆర్మీ లో లెఫ్టినెంట్ జనరల్ గా ఉన్నారు. రావత్ గారి తల్లి ఉత్తరాక్షి నియోజక వర్గం యొక్క మాజీ MLA కూతురు. 

బిపిన్ రావత్ గారు  డెహ్రాడూన్ లోని కాంబ్రియన్ హాల్ స్కూల్ మరియు షిమ్లా లోని ఎడ్వర్డ్ స్కూల్ లో చదివారు.స్కూల్ చదువు పూర్తి చేసుకున్న తరవాత ఖందఖ్వాసుల లోని  నేషనల్ డిఫెన్స్ అకాడమీ లో చేరారు. తరవాత డెహ్రాడూన్ లోని ఇండియన్ మిలిటరీ అకాడమీ లో చేరారు. 

ఇండియన్ మిలిటరీ అకాడమీ లో బిపిన్ రావత్ గారిని “Sword of honour ” గా బిరుదును ఇచ్చారు. రావత్ గ్రాడ్యుయేషన్ చదువును డిఫెన్స్ సర్వీస్ స్టాఫ్ కాలేజీ నుంచి పూర్తి చేసారు.   

అమెరికా లోని కన్సాస్ స్టేట్ లో హయ్యర్ కమాండ్ కోర్స్ ను United States Army Command and General Staff College లో పూర్తి చేసారు.  

ఇంతేకాకుండా డిఫెన్స్ స్టడీస్ లో Mphil డిగ్రీ ను మరియు యూనివర్సిటీ అఫ్ మద్రాస్ నుంచి కంప్యూటర్ స్టడీస్ ను కూడా పూర్తి చేసారు.

ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీ : 

1978 లో రావా 11 గోర్ఖ రైఫల్స్ కు చెందిన 5 వ బెటాలియన్ లో నియమించబడ్డారు.  ఉరి మరియు జమ్మూ కాశ్మీర్ కు చెందిన మిలిటరీ యూనిట్ లకు నాయకత్వం వహించారు. తరవాత  11 గోర్ఖ రైఫల్స్ కు చెందిన 5 వ బెటాలియన్ కు కూడా నాయకత్వం వహించారు. బ్రిగేడియర్ గా పదోన్నతి కూడా పొందారు.

బ్రిగేడియర్ నుంచి మేజర్ జనరల్ గా పదోన్నతి పొందిన తరవాత 19th Infantry Division కి  General Officer Commanding గా నియమించబడ్డారు.

లెఫ్టినంట్ జనరల్ గా III Corps కి  కూడా నాయకత్వం వహించారు. జనవరి 2016 వ సంవత్సరంలో Army Commander grade గా పదోన్నతి పొందిన తరవాత  General Officer Commanding-in-Chief గా నియమించబడ్డారు. 

2016 వ సంవత్సరంలో దల్బీర్ సింగ్ రిటైర్మెంట్ తరవాత 27వ Chief of the Army Staff గా నియమించబడ్డారు. 

1987 లో బిపిన్ రావత్ బెటాలియన్ Sumdorong Chu లోయ వద్ద చైనా ఆర్మీ కి వ్యతిరేకంగా నియమించబడ్డారు.

వ్యకిగత జీవితం :

1985 సంవత్సరంలో మధులిక రావత్ ను పెళ్లి చేసుకున్నారు. ఈ దంపతులకు కృతిక మరియు తరిని అనే ఇద్దరు కుమార్తెలు పుట్టారు.

డిసెంబర్ 8, 2021 వ సంవత్సరంలో బిపిన్ రావత్ తన భర్య మరియు కొంత మంది ఆర్మీ జనరల్ తో  Indian Air Force Mil Mi-17 అనే హెలికాప్టర్ లో ప్రయాణం చేస్తున్నప్పుడు తమిళనాడు లోని కూనూర్ లో హెలికాప్టర్ క్రాష్ అవ్వటం వల్ల మరణించారు. 

ఈ ఘటన డిఫెన్స్ సర్వీసెస్ స్టాఫ్ కాలేజీ లో లెక్చర్ ఇవ్వటానికి వెళుతున్నప్పుడు జరిగింది. ఈ హెలికాప్టర్ ప్రమాదం లో బిపిన్ రావత్ తో పాటు తన భార్య మరియు 11 మంది మృతి చెందారు.

Bipin Rawat:త్రివిధ దళాధిపతి బిపిన్ రావత్ మృతి.. యుద్ధవీరుడి జీవిత విశేషాలు..

 మొట్ట‌మొద‌టి భారత త్రివిధ దళాధిపతి (చీఫ్‌ ఆఫ్‌ డిఫెన్స్‌ స్టాఫ్‌) జనరల్‌ బిపిన్‌ రావత్‌ (Bipin Rawat) ప్రయాణిస్తున్న ఆర్మీ హెలికాప్టర్‌ ప్రమాదవశాత్తూ  కొయంబత్తూర్‌ సమీపంలో కుప్ప‌కూలింది. ఈ ప్ర‌మాదంలో బిపిన్ రావ‌త్ ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారు.  1978 డిసెంబ‌ర్‌లో ఆర్మీలో త‌న ప్రయాణాన్ని మొద‌లు పెట్టిన బిపిన్ రావ‌త్‌.. దేశ మొట్ట‌మొద‌టి త్రివిధ ద‌ళాల అధిప‌తి (CDS )గానూ సేవ‌లందించారు. 

 బిపిన్ రావ‌త్ (Bipin Rawat) ఉత్త‌రాఖండ్‌లోని పూరీలో  1958 మార్చి 16న జ‌న్మించారు.  వారి కుటుబం చాలా ఏండ్లుగా  ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీలో సేవ‌లు అందిస్తోంది. ఆయ‌న  తండ్రి లక్ష్మణ్ సింగ్ రావత్ భార‌త ఆర్మీలో  లెఫ్టినెంట్ జనరల్ స్థాయికి ఎదిగి సేవ‌లందించారు.  బిపిన్ రావత్ తన ప్రథమిక విద్యను డెహ్రడూన్ లోని  కాంబ్రియన్ హాల్ స్కూల్ లో  ప్రారంభించారు. ఆ తర్వాత సిమ్లాలోని  సెయింట్ ఎడ్వర్డ్ స్కూల్ లో చదివారు. ఆ తర్వాత ఖడక్వాస్లాలోని నేషనల్ డిఫెన్స్ అకాడమీ లో చేరారు. అటునుంచి డెహ్రడూన్ లోని ఇండియన్ మిలటరీ అకాడమీలోకి ప్రవేశించారు. అక్కడ బిపిన్ ప్రతిభకు 'స్వోర్డ్ అఫ్ ఆనర్' లభించింది.  డిఫెన్స్ సర్వీసెస్ స్టాఫ్ కాలేజ్ (DSSC)-వెల్లింగ్టన్ లో గ్రాడ్యుయేషన్ పూర్తి చేశారు.  హయ్యర్ కమాండ్ కోర్సును యునైటెడ్ స్టేట్స్ ఆర్మీ కమాండ్ అండ్ జనరల్ స్టాఫ్ కాలేజ్-ఫోర్ట్ లీవెన్ వర్త్ , కాన్సాస్ లో పూర్తి చేశారు.  అలాగే మద్రాస్ యూనివర్సీటి లో  డిఫెన్స్ స్టడీస్‌లో ఎంఫిల్ డిగ్రీ, మేనేజ్‌మెంట్ అండ్ కంప్యూటర్ స్టడీస్‌లో డిప్లొమాలను పూర్తి  చేశారు.  అలాగే, సైనిక మీడియా వ్యూహాత్మక అధ్యయనాల మీద పరిశోధనలకు గానూ మీరట్ లోని చరణ్ సింగ్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయం ఫిలాసఫీలో డాక్టరేట్ అందించింది.

  Bipin Rawat 1978 డిసెంబర్ 16న గూర్ఖా రైఫిల్స్‌లోని 5వ బెటాలియన్‌లో చేరి తన ఆర్మీ జీవితాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు. ఆ సమయంలో ఆయన తండ్రి కూడా అదే యూనిట్ లో పనిచేస్తున్నారు.  ఆయన యుద్ధ నైపుణ్యాలను గమనించిన ఇండియన్ ఆర్మీ పలు కీలక ఆపరేషన్లలో ఆయన సేవలను ఉపయోగించుకుంది. రావత్ కు యుద్ధ విద్యలో అపార అనుభవం ఉంది. దేశ వ్యతిరేక, తిరుగుబాటు కార్యకలాపాల నిరోధక ఆపరేషన్లలో పదేండ్ల పాటు సేవలందించారు.  ఉద్రిక్త పరిస్థితులు నెలకొన్ని ఉన్న సమయంలో జమ్మూకాశ్మీర్ ఆర్మీ విభాగంలో పలు కీలక బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించారు. యూరీ, జమ్మూకాశ్మీర్ లలో మేజర్, కల్నల్ గా సేవలందించారు.  సరిహద్దు వెంట Southern కమాండర్ గా III Corps 19th Infantry Division MONUSCO North Kivu కు నాయయత్వం వహించారు. బ్రిగేడియర్ పదోన్నది పొందిన తర్వాత  Rashtriya Rifles, Sector 5, 5/11 Gorkha Riflesకు నాయకత్వం వహంచారు. బ్రిగేడియర్ హోదాకు పదోన్నతి పొందిన ఆయన సోపోర్ లో 5 సెక్టార్ ఆఫ్ రాష్ట్రీయ రైఫిల్స్ కు నాయకత్వం వహించాడు. ఆ తర్వాత డెమొక్రటిక్ రిపబ్లిక్ ఆఫ్ ది కాంగో (మోనుస్కో)లో జరిగిన చాప్టర్ 62 మిషన్ లో బహుళజాతి బ్రిగేడ్ కు నాయకత్వం వహించగా, అక్కడ ఆయనకు రెండుసార్లు ఫోర్స్ కమాండర్ ప్రశంసా పత్రం లభించింది.

మేజర్ జనరల్ గా పదోన్నతి అనంతరం రావత్ జనరల్ ఆఫీసర్ కమాండింగ్ 19వ పదాతి దళ విభాగం (ఉరి)గా బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించారు.  ఇండియన్ మిలటరీ అకాడమీ (డెహ్రాడూన్)లో ప్రత్యేక పదవిలో సేవలు అందించారు. మిలటరీ ఆపరేషన్స్ డైరెక్టరేట్ లో జనరల్ స్టాఫ్ ఆఫీసర్ గ్రేడ్ 2, మధ్య భారతదేశంలోని రీ ఆర్గనైజ్డ్ ఆర్మీ ప్లెయిన్స్ ఇన్ ఫాంట్రీ డివిజన్ (రాపిడ్) లాజిస్టిక్స్ స్టాఫ్ ఆఫీసర్, మిలటరీ సెక్రటరీ బ్రాంచ్ లో కల్నల్ మిలటరీ సెక్రటరీ మరియు డిప్యూటీ మిలటరీ సెక్రటరీ,  జూనియర్ కమాండ్ వింగ్ లో సీనియర్ ఇన్ స్ట్రక్టర్  వంటి బాధ్యతలను ఆయన నిర్వర్తించారు.  బిపిన్ రావత్ 2017 జనవరి 1 నుంచి గత ఏడాది డిసెంబర్ 31 వరకు ఆర్మీ చీఫ్‌గా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించారు.  అనంతరం భారత తొలి చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ స్టాఫ్ (సీడీఎస్)గా జనరల్ బిపిన్ రావత్‌ 2019లో నియమితులయ్యారు. చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ సర్వీసెస్ త్రివిధ దళాలకు సంబంధించి రక్షణ శాఖ మంత్రికి ప్రధాన సలహాదారుగా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. ట్రైనింగ్, ఆపరేషన్స్, సహకార సేవలు, కమ్యూనికేషన్స్‌, రిపేర్, మెయింటెనెన్స్ అనే పలు రకాల వాటిలో త్రివిధ దళాలను సమన్వయం చేసుకుంటూ భారత రక్షణ వ్యవస్థను పటిష్టం చేయడానికి త్రివిధ దళాధిపతిగా Bipin Rawat కృషి చేస్తున్నారు. బుధవారం చోటుచేసుకున్న హెలికాప్టర్ ప్రమాదంలో ప్రణాలు కోల్పోయారు.

దిల్లీ: హెలికాప్టర్ ప్రమాదంలో మరణించిన సీడీఎస్ బిపిన్ రావత్ చివరి సందేశాన్ని భారత సైన్యం ఆదివారం విడుదల చేసింది. 1971లో పాకిస్థాన్‌పై జరిగిన యుద్ధంలో భారత విజయానికి గుర్తుగా.. దిల్లీలో నిర్వహించిన ‘స్వర్ణిమ్​ విజయ్‌ పర్వ్​’ కార్యక్రమంలో జనరల్​ రావత్​ చివరి వీడియో సందేశాన్ని ప్రసారం చేశారు. డిసెంబరు 7న రికార్డు చేసిన ఈ వీడియో ద్వారా.. స్వర్ణిమ్‌ విజయ్‌ పర్వ్‌ సందర్భంగా సైనికులకు శుభాకాంక్షలు తెలిపారు. ఆ యుద్ధంలో అమరులైన సైనికులకు రావత్ నివాళులు అర్పించారు. 1971 ఇండియా-పాక్‌ యుద్ధానికి 50 ఏళ్లు పూర్తయిన సందర్భంగా దిల్లీలోని ఇండియా గేట్​ వద్ద ఈ పలు రకాల కార్యక్రమాలు నిర్వహిస్తున్నట్లు అందులో తెలిపారు. భారత పౌరులు ఇందులో పాల్గొని విజయవంతం చేయాలని కోరారు.

ఆదివారం ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో పాల్గొన్న రక్షణ శాఖ మంత్రి రాజ్​నాథ్​ సింగ్ అమరవీరులకు నివాళులర్పించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమాన్ని తొలుత ఘనంగా నిర్వహించాలని భావించినా.. దేశ తొలి సీడీఎస్ జనరల్ బిపిన్​ రావత్​ అకాల మరణంతో నిరాడంబరంగా జరుపుతున్నట్లు రాజ్​నాథ్​ పేర్కొన్నారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా రావత్​ను స్మరించుకుంటూ నివాళులర్పించారు. ‘ఈ వేడుక దక్షిణాసియా చరిత్ర, భౌగోళిక స్థితిని మార్చిన భారత సైన్యం అద్భుతమైన విజయానికి గుర్తు. ఆ యుద్ధంలో అమరులైన ప్రతి సైనికుడి ధైర్యానికి, పరాక్రమానికి, త్యాగానికి నమస్కరిస్తున్నాను. ఆ ధైర్యవంతులందరి త్యాగానికి దేశం ఎప్పుడూ రుణపడి ఉంటుంది. ఈ యుద్ధం మన నైతికతకు, మన ప్రజాస్వామ్య సంప్రదాయాలకు, న్యాయంగా వ్యవహరించడానికి గొప్ప ఉదాహరణ’ అని రాజ్‌నాథ్‌సింగ్‌ వ్యాఖ్యానించారు.

1971లో తూర్పు పాకిస్థాన్‌లో స్వతంత్ర పోరు మొదలై.. భారత్‌-పాక్‌ మధ్య యుద్ధానికి దారితీసింది. ఇందులో పాక్‌ను భారత్‌ ఓడించింది. ఆ తర్వాత బంగ్లాదేశ్ ఏర్పడింది. ఆ విజయానికి గుర్తుగా ఏటా డిసెంబరు 16న విజయ్‌ దివస్‌ నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. ఆ​ యుద్ధంలో భారత్‌ విజయానికి 50 ఏళ్లు పూర్తయిన సందర్భంగా ‘స్వర్ణ విజయ సంవత్సరం’గా పేర్కొంటూ ఏడాదిపాటు దేశవ్యాప్తంగా వేడుకలను నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.

CDS General Bipin Rawat was accorded a 17-gun salute at his funeral where 800 military personnel were in attendance. Brigadier Lidder was also laid to rest with full military honours today. General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat are survived by their daughters Kritika and Tarini and Brigadier Lidder is survived by his wife and daughter. 

The health condition of Group Captain Varun Singh, the sole survivor of the tragic crash, is critical. He is on life support at the Command Hospital in Bengaluru. He was taken to the Sulur Air Base from where he was airlifted to Bengaluru. 

A tri-service inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. It will be led by Air Chief Marshal Manavendra Singh. The black box of the ill-fated IAF helicopter has been retrieved.

CDS Bipin Rawat: Birth, Early Life, and Education

Birth and Family: Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat was born in Pauri, Uttarakhand. His father, Laxman Singh Rawat, served the Indian Army and rose to the rank of Lieutenant-General. His mother was the daughter of an ex-MLA from Uttrakhand's Uttarkashi. 

Education: He received his formal education at Cambrian Hall School in Dehradun and the St. Edward's School, Shimla and went on to join the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was honoured with the 'Sword of Honour'.

He was also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and the Higher Command Course at the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

CDS Bipin Rawat: Military Career

On 16 December 1978, CDS Bipin Rawat was commissioned into the 5th battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles , the same unit as his father Laxman Singh Rawat. He spent 10 years conducting counter-insurgency operations and served on various ranging from Major to current CDS.  

While serving on the post of Major , CDS Bipin Rawat commanded a company in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri. He commanded his battalion along the LAC at Kibithu as a Colonel . After getting promoted to the rank of Brigadier , he commanded 5 Sector of Rashtriya Rifles in Sopore and multinational Brigade in a Chapter VII mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), where he was honoured twice with the Force Commander’s Commendation.

Bipin Rawat took over as the General Officer Commanding 19th Infantry Division in Uri when he was promoted to the rank of Major General . As a Lieutenant General , he commanded III Corps, headquartered in Dimapur before taking over the Southern Army in Pune.

He assumed the post of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command after being promoted to the Army Commander grade. After a short stint, he was promoted to the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff.

CDS Bipin Rawat Death 

Timeline of the event: iaf chopper crash.

1- CDS General Bipin Rawat was on a scheduled visit to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington to interact with the Student Officers.

2- The IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter took off from Sulur Air Base at 11:48 am on 8 December 2021 and was expected to land at Wellington by 12:15 pm.

3- At approximately 12:08 pm, Air Traffic Control at Sulur Air Base lost contact with the chopper.

4- Thereafter, a few locals spotted a fire in the forest near Coonoor and rushed to the spot.

5- The locals saw the wreckage of a military helicopter engulfed in flames.

6- Rescue teams from the local administration in the vicinity reached the site and attempted to recover the survivors from the crash site.

7- All those recovered from the wreckage were rushed to the Military Hospital, Wellington.

8- Out of the total 14 persons aboard the ill-fated helicopter, 13 have succumbed to their injuries.

9- Group Captain Varun Singh is the sole survivor of the tragic crash. His condition is critical but stable. 

10- The mortal remains of the 13 people will be brought to Delhi by today evening for last rites.

Bipin Rawat: India's 'inspiring commander' who died in helicopter crash

General Bipin Rawat, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, was India's most senior defence official.

He was appointed as the country's first chief of defence staff (CDS) in 2019, and previously served as the chief of India's one-million strong army.

The 63-year-old had the reputation of being a tough soldier and an inspiring commander, who sometimes sparked controversy with his comments on political developments.

Gen Rawat was born on 16 March 1958 in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.

His father was a lieutenant general in the Indian Army and his mother was the daughter of a politician.

A top student during his military training, Gen Rawat was awarded the "Sword of Honour" at the National Defence College and the Indian Military Academy.

He also completed a training course with the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

He joined his father's military unit, 11 Gorkha Rifles, in 1978.

After that, he served in several key posts in the army, specialising in high-altitude warfare and counter-insurgency operations.

He was a decorated officer who often commanded units in restive regions in the country.

In the 1980s, as an army colonel, Gen Rawat commanded his battalion along the Line of Actual Control in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh during a military stand-off with China.

In 2015, when he was in charge of the 3 Corps, Gen Rawat initiated India's first officially declared surgical strikes on foreign territory when he sent troops of a para-commando battalion to attack Naga rebels inside Myanmar after an ambush on Indian troops.

In the same year, he survived a helicopter crash in the north-eastern state of Nagaland.

In 2016, he took over as India's 27th Indian army chief, superseding two officers who were senior to him.

The following year, India sparked an international controversy when it awarded a medal to an army officer who tied a civilian to the front of his jeep in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Gen Rawat had defended the move, describing the officer's actions as an "innovation" in a "dirty war".

"People are throwing stones at us, people are throwing petrol bombs at us. If my men ask me what do we do, should I say, just wait and die? I will come with a nice coffin with a national flag and I will send your bodies home with honour. Is it what I am supposed to tell them as chief? I have to maintain the morale of my troops who are operating there," he said.

In 2019, the government of Narendra Modi set up the position of CDS to improve coordination between India's army, navy and air force.

The new chief also had control over funding for the military.

When he took charge, Gen Rawat faced criticism over his alleged closeness to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He always denied these accusations.

His critics said some of his statements went against the "apolitical" tradition of India's military.

He once described the rise of the Muslim-dominated All India United Democratic Front party in Assam as a national security threat, which led minority leaders to accuse him of "parroting" the BJP's line.

In recent months, the general was focusing on modernising the military.

Under Gen Rawat's leadership, the process of military integration had taken off, though integrated theatre commands hadn't yet been formed for the three forces.

Rawat then obtained an MPhil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras. He also held a few diplomas in Management and computer science from the University of Madras. In 2011, Bipin received an honorary doctorate from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, for his research on military media strategic studies. Bipin Rawat was born into a family with an army background. His family had been serving the Indian army for ages. He was the third generation of his family to join the Indian Army.

Parents & Siblings

Rawat’s father, Lakshman Singh Rawat, was a retired Lt. General of the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (retired in 1988). He was from Sainj village of the Pauri Garhwal district and was commissioned into 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1951. His mother was the daughter of Kishan Singh Parmar, a politician and an ex-MLA from Uttarkashi in Uttrakhand.

Bipin Rawat got married to Madhulika Raje Singh , a scion of an erstwhile princely family, on 14 April 1986. Madhulika was the daughter of Kunwar Mrigendra Singh, who was once a Riyasatdar of the pargana of Sohagpur Riyasat in Shahdol district. As of 2021, she was appointed as the President of the Army Women Welfare Association (AWWA). Madhulika was also killed in a chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu along with Bipin Rawat.

Other Relatives

Rawat’s paternal uncle, Bharat Singh Rawat, was deployed in the Indian Army as a Havaldar (non-commissioned officer). He had one more uncle named Harinandan who was also in the Indian Army.

In one of his interviews, Bipin’s uncle, Bharat Singh Rawat, while describing Bipin, said,

A very smart boy right from childhood. Bipin has managed to get where he is only through sheer hard work and honesty. We were very sure that he would achieve great success, and he has proved us right.”

Bipin Rawat followed Hinduism, and he belonged to a Kshatriya (Rajput) Family [3] India.com .

On 16 December 1978, Bipin Rawat was commissioned into the 5th battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles (same battalion as his father). When he was promoted as a Colonel, he commanded the “5th battalion 11 Gorkha Rifles” in the Eastern sector along the LOC at Kibithoo, Arunachal Pradesh. When he was promoted to the rank of “Brigadier,” he commanded the “5 Sector of the Rashtriya Rifles” in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. As a Brigadier, he had also commanded a multinational Brigade in “Chapter VII mission” in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa, where he was awarded the “Force Commander’s Commendation” twice.

When Rawat was promoted as a Major General, he took over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 19th Infantry Division in Uri, J&K. As the Lieutenant General, he commanded the “III Corps,” headquartered in Dimapur, Nagaland, before taking over the Southern Army in Pune. He also held several staff appointments such as the instructional tenure at the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), logistics staff officer of a Re-organised Army Plains Infantry Division (RAPID) in central India, Colonel Military Secretary, and many more.

One of the highlights of his career was the 2015 cross-border operation in Myanmar, where the Indian Army successfully countered the NSCN-K insurgents. In 2016, he was also involved in the planning of a surgical strike. On 1 January 2016, he was promoted to the Army Commander grade, and he took charge as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command. On 1 September 2016, he was appointed as the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOS). On 17 December 2016, Rawat was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff by the Government of India. He became the 27th Chief of Army Staff, and he assumed office on 31 December 2016, after General Dalbir Singh Suhag’s retirement.

On 30 December 2019, a day before his retirement from service, the Government of India announced that Bipin Rawat will be appointed as the country’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). His service was extended without retirement, and he assumed office on 1 January 2020. He served the rank until his death on 8 December 2021.

Controversies

• Bipin once landed into a controversy for meeting the RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat, in uniform, in full public view in Nagpur. He later defended himself by saying that there was nothing wrong in paying respect to elders. [4] The Telegraph India
• During his tenure as Army chief, Rawat was very hostile towards Kashmiri civilians and in one of the clashes between the civilians and the security forces in 2017, Rawat said, “I wish these people, instead of throwing stones at us, were firing weapons at us. • In 2017, he was criticized when he awarded the “Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation Card” to Major Leetul Gogoi for his sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operations. He was criticized on this decision as in 2017, Gogoi had tied a Kashmiri citizen in front of his jeep to prevent stone-pelters from attacking his convoy. • In December 2018, Rawat’s statement invited criticism when he warned soldiers who falsely claimed that they were disabled, to earn extra money through the “disability pension.” He said that people who are truly disabled will be taken care of medically and financially, but those who falsely claim this pension should mend their ways or there’ll be serious consequences. He said that women could complain of men peeping into their tents while they were changing, so we will have to provide a sheet around her. As of 2021, Bipin Rawat was receiving Rs. 250,000 a month and some other allowances as the Chief of Defence Staff. [10] The 7th Pay Commission of India

On 8 December 2021, when Bipin Rawat was en route to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Nilgiri Hills), where he had to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course, he was killed in a chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu along with his wife, Madhulika , and 11 more who were travelling in an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter.

On 10 December 2021, he was cremated at the Brar Square crematorium at Delhi cantonment with full military honours. The body of his wife, Madhulika, was also laid on the same pyre.

• When Rawat was named as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), he superseded two of his senior officers, Lt. General Praveen Bakshi and Lt. General PM Hariz. The Government of India had broken its protocol of appointing the most senior ranking officer as the COAS.
• He was the third officer from the Gorkha Brigade to be appointed as the COAS after Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw and General Dalbir Singh Suhag.

• Over the course of his 43 years of service, Bipin Rawat was known for his valour and laudable service with the UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, and COAS. Rawat was also a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and received the Force Commander’s Commendation twice during his tenure with the United Nations.
• In 2021, Bipin referred to the Indian Air Force as a ‘supporting arm’ of the Indian defence network and infrastructure. Air Chief Marshal R.K.S. Bhadauria got offended with his statement and in response said that the Indian Air Force served a bigger role than just being a supporting arm.
• In September 2021, while addressing an event on behalf of the CDS at the India International Centre in New Delhi, General Rawat talked about the theory of clash of civilisations with regards to the western civilisation and China’s growing relations with countries like Iran and Turkey. The next day, India’s Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar conveyed to his Chinese counterpart that India did not subscribe to any clash of civilisations theory.
• After the death of Bipin Rawat, there were rumours on WhatsApp that some college hostels in Tamil Nadu and Kerala had celebrated Rawat’s death. After the rumours went viral, Ali Akbar, a filmmaker from Kerala said that he was upset over Muslims celebrating the death of General Rawat on the internet and was willing to convert to Hinduism.
• Rawat had penned down a number of articles on national security and leadership that were published in various publications.
• He was the first military officer to don three hats simultaneously- he was the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee, the Secretary Department of Military Affairs, and Chief of Defence Staff.
• An uncanny coincidence about the Indian Army is that prior to Rawat the last Army Chief to die while serving the office was General Bipin Chandra Joshi, in 1994. Both of them not only had the same first name but also belonged to the same place, i.e., Uttarakhand.
• Rawat often took inputs (when he was appearing for the Service Selection Board; SSB) from his old acquaintance, Lt Col Onkar Singh Dikrit. Bipin knew Onkar since his younger days as he was a senior of his father in 2/11 Gorkha Rifles.
• Bipin was very attached to his hometown in Uttarkhand. He made sure to visit his native village after a fixed duration, even when he was busy. He even wanted to buy a house in the village and expressed it to his uncle, Bharat Singh Rawat, who later showed him a plot to build a desired house.

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat:  తమిళనాడు లోని ఊటి దగ్గర ఆర్మీ హెలికాప్టర్‌ కుప్పకూలింది. ఈ హెలికాప్టర్‌లో చీఫ్‌ ఆఫ్‌ డిఫెన్స్‌ స్టాఫ్‌ బిపిన్‌ రావత్‌తో పాటు పాటు మరో 10 మంది ఆర్మీ ఉన్నతాధికారులు ఉన్నారు. . హెలికాప్టర్‌ కూలిన తరువాత మంటలు చెలరేగాయి. ఈ ప్రమాదంలో ముగ్గురు చనిపోయినట్టు తెలుస్తోంది. ముగ్గురికి తీవ్రగాయాలైనట్టు చెబుతున్నారు. తీవ్ర గాయాల పాలైన ముగ్గురు అధికారులను ఆస్పత్రికి తరలించారు. హెలికాప్టర్‌లో బిపిన్‌ రావత్‌ భార్య కూడా ఉన్నారు. సంఘటనా స్థలానికి అగ్నిమాపక సిబ్బంది చేరుకున్నారు. మంటలను ఆర్పేశారు. గాయపడ్డ వారిని ఆస్పత్రికి తరలిస్తున్నారు. బిపిన్‌ రావత్‌ను భారత తొలి చీఫ్‌ ఆఫ్‌ డిఫెన్స్‌ స్టాఫ్‌గా కేంద్రం నియమించింది. ఆర్మీ చీఫ్‌గా రిటైర్‌ అయిన తరవాత ఆయన ఈ పదవిని చేపట్టారు. త్రివిధ దళాలకు అధిపతిగా ఆయన వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. ఈ ప్రమాదం ఎందుకు జరిగిందన్న విషయంపై ఆర్మీ దర్యాప్తును ప్రారంభించింది.

బిపిన్ రావత్‌‌‌ ఎవరంటే..

జనరల్ బిపిన్ రావత్‌‌‌ను దేశ తొలి చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ స్టాఫ్‌ వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. జనరల్ రావత్ డిసెంబర్ 31న ఆర్మీ చీఫ్ పదవి నుంచి రిటైర్ అయ్యారు. ఆర్మీ చీఫ్ జనరల్ బిపిన్ రావత్‌‌‌ డిసెంబర్ 31న ఆర్మీ చీఫ్ పదవి నుంచి రిటైర్ అయ్యారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఆయన్ను దేశ తొలి చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ స్టాఫ్‌గా కేంద్రం ప్రకటించింది. ఈ పదవి ఏర్పాటుకు కేబినెట్ కమిటీ ఆన్ సెక్యూరిటీ అంగీకారంతో కేంద్రం ఈ నిర్ణయించింది. రక్షణ శాఖ పరిధిలో నూతనంగా ఏర్పాటు చేయనున్న మిలటరీ వ్యవహారాల మంత్రిత్వ శాఖ బాధ్యతలను కూడా చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ పర్యవేక్షిస్తారు.

రావత్ మూడేళ్ల పాటు ఈ పదవిలో కొనసాగుతారు. 1978 డిసెంబర్‌లో ఆర్మీలో చేరిన బిపిన్ రావత్ 2017 జనవరి 1 నుంచి గత ఏడాది డిసెంబర్ 31  వరకు ఆర్మీ చీఫ్‌గా బాధ్యతలు నిర్వర్తించారు. చీఫ్ ఆఫ్ డిఫెన్స్ సర్వీసెస్ త్రివిధ దళాలకు సంబంధించి రక్షణ శాఖ మంత్రికి ప్రధాన సలహాదారుగా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. ట్రైనింగ్, ఆపరేషన్స్, సహకార సేవలు, కమ్యూనికేషన్స్‌, రిపేర్, మెయింటెనెన్స్ అనే పలు రకాల వాటిలో త్రివిధ దళాలను సమన్వయం చేసుకుంటూ భారత రక్షణ వ్యవస్థను పటిష్టం చేయడానికి కృషి చేస్తున్నారు బిపిన్ రావత్‌

CDS పదవి తెరపైకి ఇలా..

1999లో కార్గిల్‌ యుద్ధం తర్వాత దేశ రక్షణ విధానాల్లో లోపాలను పరిశీలించేందుకు ఏర్పడ్డ అత్యున్నత స్థాయి కమిటీ సూచన మేరకు CDS పదవి తెరపైకి వచ్చింది. CDS పదవిని సృష్టించేందుకు భద్రతా వ్యవహారాల కేబినెట్‌ కమిటీ ఆమోదం తెలిపింది. త్రివిధ దళాలకు సంబంధించిన అన్ని అంశాలపై రక్షణ మంత్రికి ఏకైక సలహాదారుగా CDS వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు. ఆయనకు సైనిక పరమైన అధికారాలు ఉండవు. విడివిడిగా సైన్యం, నౌకాదళం, వాయుసేనలకు ఆయా దళాల అధిపతులే నాయకత్వం వహిస్తారు. కొత్తగా ఏర్పడ్డ సైబర్‌, అంతరిక్ష విభాగాలు CDS కనుసన్నల్లోనే పనిచేస్తుంది. NCA కు ఆయన సైనిక సలహాదారుగా ఉన్నారు. రక్షణ కొనుగోళ్ల కమిటీలో సభ్యుడిగా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు.

2016 డిసెంబర్‌ 31న సైన్యాధిపతిగా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టిన రావత్‌.. మూడేళ్ల పాటు ఆ పదవిలో పనిచేశారు. ప్రస్తుతమున్న నిబంధనల ప్రకారం సైన్యాధిపతి ఆ పదవిలో మూడేళ్లు కానీ 62 ఏళ్లు వచ్చే వరకూ కానీ ఉండొచ్చు. రావత్‌కు ఇంకా 62 ఏళ్లు నిండనప్పటికీ సైన్యాధిపతిగా బాధ్యతలు చేపట్టి మూడేళ్లు పూర్తవ్వడంతో పదవీ విరమణ చేశారు.

సైన్యాధిపతి హోదాలో రావత్‌ అనేక సంస్కరణలు చేపట్టారు. సీమాంతర ఉగ్రవాదాన్ని ఎదుర్కొనేందుకు కఠిన విధానాన్ని తెచ్చారు. సిమ్లాలోని సెయింట్‌ ఎడ్వర్డ్‌ పాఠశాలలో చదివిన రావత్‌ ప్రతిష్ఠాత్మక నేషనల్‌ డిఫెన్స్‌ అకాడమీ ద్వారా సైన్యంలోకి ఎంపికయ్యారు. శిక్షణ తర్వాత 1978 డిసెంబర్‌లో గూర్ఖా రైఫిల్స్‌ రెజిమెంట్‌లో అధికారిగా చేరారు. అనేక ప్రాంతాల్లో, వివిధ హోదాల్లో విధులు నిర్వర్తించారు.

Bipin Rawat Biography: Know everything about the first CDS of India, who died in a helicopter crash

On Wednesday, an army chopper carrying CDS General Bipin Rawat, crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor. Reportedly, the helicopter was carrying 14 people, including CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife, security commandos and an IAF Pilot. 

Thirteen people ost their lives. Among the dead was India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife.

Search and rescue operation was carried out. Local military officers reached the location and were informed that locals have taken two bodies with 80% burns to a local hospital while more bodies were seen downhill.

Here know about who is Bipin Rawat, the first CDS of India:

Bipin Rawat Early Life

Bipin Rawat was born in Pauri, Uttarakhand. He took birth in a Hindu Garhwali Rajput Family, which had been serving in the Indian Army since multiple generations. His father Laxman Singh Rawat had rose to the rank of Lieutenant General, while serving in Indian Army. His mother was the daughter of Kishan Singh Parmar, ex-MLA from Uttarkashi. Bipin Rawat married Madhulika Rawat, who also lost her life in the same helicopter crash

Bipin Rawat Education

Bipin Rawat completed his schooling from Cambrian Hill School, Dehradun and St. Edward’s School, Shimla. He then joined the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was also conferred with ‘Sword of Honour’.

Rawat has also received education from Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and completed the Higher Command Course at the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

He has an MPhil degree in Defence Studies as well as diplomas in Management and Computer Studies from University of Madras.

He was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut for his research on military-media strategic studies.

Bipin Rawat Military Career

Rawat was admitted into the 5th battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles on 16 December 1978, the same unit his father was a part of. As a major, He commanded a company in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. As a Colonel, he commanded the 5th battalion 11 Gorkha Rifles, in the Eastern sector along the Line of Actual Control at Kibithu. As a Brigadier, he commanded 5 Sector of Rashtriya Rifles in Sopore. He then commanded a multinational Brigade in a Chapter VII mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) where he was twice awarded the Force Commander’s Commendation.

After promotion to Major General, Rawat took over as the General Officer Commanding 19th Infantry Division (Uri). As a Lieutenant General, he commanded III Corps, headquartered in Dimapur before taking over the Southern Army in Pune.

He also held staff assignments which included an instructional tenure at the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), General Staff Officer Grade 2 at the Military Operations Directorate, logistics staff officer of a Re-organised Army Plains Infantry Division (RAPID) in central India, Colonel Military Secretary and Deputy Military Secretary in the Military Secretary’s Branch and Senior Instructor in the Junior Command Wing. He also served as the Major General General Staff (MGGS) of the Eastern Command.

After being promoted to the Army Commander grade, Rawat assumed the post of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command on 1 January 2016. After a short stint, he assumed the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff on 1 September 2016.

On 17 December 2016, the Government of India appointed him as the 27th Chief of the Army Staff, superseding two more senior Lieutenant Generals, Praveen Bakshi and P. M. Hariz. [22] He took office of Chief of Army Staff as the 27th COAS on 31 December 2016, after retirement of General Dalbir Singh Suhag.

He is the third officer from the Gorkha Brigade to become the Chief of the Army Staff, after Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and General Dalbir Singh Suhag.

On December 31, 2019 General Bipin Rawat took the office of Chief of Defence Staff and became the first ever CDS of India.

Bipin Rawat Honours

On his visit to the United States in 2019, General Rawat was inducted to the United States Army Command and General Staff College International Hall of Fame.  He is also the honorary General of Nepalese Army. Rawat has also been conferred  Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal and the COAS Commendation on two occasions and the Army Commander’s Commendation.

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat were laid to rest on Friday at the Brar Square crematorium in Delhi. Their two daughters Kritika Rawat and Tarini Rawat performed the last rites of their parents.

Not much is known about Bipin Rawat's daughters. Kritika is the eldest daughter who is married and has a son. The grandkid was also snapped at their house paying last respect to his grandparents. Younger daughter Kritika Rawat is an advocate and used to stay with the parents in Delhi.

General Bipin Rawat wanted to visit wife's ancestral home next year, says kin

While Bipin Rawat was a native of Uttarakhand, his wife Madhulika Rawat was from Madhya Pradesh. Both of them maintained a strong connection with their native places. Bipin Rawat had visited his native village Saina in 2018 and told his uncle that he wanted to build a house and settle there.

As recalled by his uncle Bharat Singh Rawat, Bipin Rawat called him about a month ago and asked about the road connectivity to the village.

Bipin Rawat's maternal village is in Uttarkashi which he had last visited in 2019. Relatives from his maternal side too were aware that Bipin Rawat wanted to settle in Uttarakhand.

Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat got married in 1986 when Bipin rawat was a captain in the Army.

Bipin Rawat was in close touch with his in-laws as his brother-in-law Yashwardhan Singh recalled a conversation where Bipin Rawat promised to visit Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol in January next year. He had plans to set up a sainik school in the district.

As Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat were laid to rest on Friday, Madhulika's brother said they will pick the ashes early morning tomorrow and head to Haridwar where the ashes will be immersed in the holy Ganga. "Both Gen Rawat and my sister were cremated on a common pyre. We will pick the ashes early morning tomorrow in a 'kalash' and then head to Haridwar where the ashes will be immersed in holy Ganga and some rituals will be performed," said Gen Rawat's brother-in-law Yashwardhan Singh told PTI.
