The actor hails from Anambra state Nigeria although he was raised in Lagos and Enugu. He is the last of Pete Edochie’s six children.

Yul attended Lillian Day Nursery School and Robinson Street Primary School, Enugu between 1984 and 1992. After his primary education, he proceeded to Marist Brothers’ Juniorate for his secondary education started in 1992.

The actor also attended the University Secondary School Enugu, Ecumenical Community Secondary School Enugu and New Haven Boys Secondary School Enugu respectively before enroling at the University of Port Harcourt, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts.

Yul is married to May Aligwe and they have two sons and a daughter.

The actor met his wife, May Aligwe, at the university in 1998. They married in 2004, six years after they met. Interestingly, the actor was just 22 when he got married.

In 2015, Yul Edochie opened a film academy in Lagos. He launched the academy as a result of the decline in quality and professionalism of upcoming Nigerian actors and actresses.

According to Yul, the academy was set up with the objective of training the next generation of Nollywood actors and actresses.

Yul Edochie declared his intention run for Governor of Anambra State in July 2017. His declaration was made in anticipation of a Not Too Young To Run Bill passed by the Senate of the federal government of Nigeria.

His declaration became official when he picked up the nomination form of the political party “Democratic Peoples Congress” in August 2017.

He was eventually the flag bearer and gubernatorial candidate of the party to run for governor of Anambra State.

During the election, the actor polled 145 votes in the just conducted governorship election in Anambra State. When the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC released its final result, Yul came 19 out of 37 contenders that jostled for the governorship stool.  The actor posted a congratulatory message on his Instagram page to the winner, Governor Willie Obiano.

In 2018, the governor would eventually appoint him as his Senior Special Assistant on Creative & Entertainment Media.

The actor responded with a lengthy post on his Instagram page where he thanked His Excellency, Chief Dr Willie Obiano (Akpokue Dike) Executive Governor of Anambra State for appointing him as SSA to the Governor on Creative & Entertainment Media.

Also, he thanked the people and youth of Anambra state for their support and prayers and he promised not to let them down.

The actor further revealed that he got into politics in order to better the lives of the people and according to him that vision will never change.

Yul is quite vocal about his political views and he recently commented on the loss of Bianca Ojukwu, the wife to the late Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in the primaries of the Anambra South Senatorial District in 2019.

According to Yul, it was an insult for her to lose an election, in fact, she wasn’t even supposed to be subjected to primaries as he believes it was an honourable thing to give her an automatic ticket instead of contesting in primaries.

Many people felt his comment was unnecessary and the relationship between Bianca and Ojukwu should not automatically substitute competence or capability.

Yul won his first award at the 2009 City People Entertainment Awards. He picked up the award of Best New Actor of the Year (English). The actor also won the 2012 Nollywood Movies Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 2013, he won the PAMSA Award for Best Actor. Yul edochie breaks silence over son’s tragic death.

Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has publicly addressed his son, Kambilichukwu’s death nearly a month after the tragic news broke.

In a post on Facebook, Yul Edochie shared with his followers the conversation he had with his late 16-year-old son on the morning of his death.

He noted that the young boy was excited to inform him about his school activities and he was looking forward to the inter-house games they were expected to have two days later.

However, Kambilichukwu passed away later that day. Yul Edochie stated that the family misses him every day since he died.

“On that Wednesday morning, you came into my room, dressed up for school. You told me your school will be having inter-house sports on Friday and I promised you I’ll be there. You were so excited. You told me you won a gold medal in swimming,” he wrote.

“I congratulated you. We joked about your height, then you left for school in your ever-cheerful manner. And you never came back home again. I can’t question God. My dear son, just 16 years with us here on earth, but you made your mark. Great Son.”

Singing his first son’s praises Yul Edochie added "calm, cute, brilliant, always cheerful, outstanding footballer, gentle and loving soul. You’re an angel. We miss you. We love you, Kambi. Daddy loves you. But God loves you more. Rest well, Son. Till we meet again. Rest in Heaven with God. My dear son, Kambi Yul-Edochie. Kambi yoooooo! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

This comes nearly a month after Yul Edochie lost his first son Kambilichukwu whom he had with his first wife, May.

Kambilichukwu died in March after reportedly developing a seizure and was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital in Lagos.

Following the 16-year-old’s death, the Lagos state police command has said it will investigate the death of Kambilichukwu.

The Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a chat with BBC, confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation to uncover the cause of Kambilichukwu’s death.

Hundeyin said Yul reported the incident at a police station close to him.

The actor also cleared his Instagram page of every post he has ever made first starting with pictures of his second wife Judy Austin and her son.

Early life .

Yul Edochie was born in the early 80’s to the family of legendary actor Pete Edochie and his wife Josephine Edochie – a broadcaster – in Anambra State. Anambra State is a state in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.

Precisely, Yul was born on 7th January, 1982. Notably, he was named after a renowned Hollywood star, Yul Brynner.

Yul had his nursery and elementary education in Lilian’s Day Nursery School and Robinson Street Primary School, Enugu respectively.

For his secondary education, he attended Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, Uturu. Notably, Yul started Nursery, elementary and secondary education in 1984, 1986, and 1992 respectively.

After obtaining his West African Senior Certificate results, Yul got admitted into the prestigious University of Port Harcourt. Therein, he studied and bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts.

Yul Edochie joined the movie industry (Nollywood) in 2005. This was shortly after he relocated to Lagos having stayed in Enugu for a while.

When Yul arrived in Lagos, he had no place to lay his head. Nonso Diobi fed and housed him for as long as he chose to stay. Ideally, Yul had come to Lagos to hustle and make ends meet; he didn’t come to Lagos to play apparently, he came to hustle.

He got his first movie role in 2005. In 2007, Yul featured in a Nollywood blockbuster movie alongside some other Nollywood superstars. Shortly after the movie was released, Yul Edochie rose to prominence.

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has finally broken his silence about the death of his first son, Kambilichukwu , who passed away on March 30, 2023, at just 16 years old.

In a lengthy and emotional tribute on his verified Instagram page, Yul opened up about his last moments with his son and the immense grief he has been experiencing since his passing.

It has been gathered that the young boy has since been buried in a private event.

Yul recounted the morning of his son’s passing, saying that Kambilichukwu had come into his room dressed up for school and had excitedly told him about his upcoming inter-house sports event.

He promised his son he would be there, and Kambilichukwu left for school in his usual cheerful manner, never returning home again.

The actor expressed his immense grief and pain at losing his son but also acknowledged that he cannot question God’s plan.

He described Kambilichukwu as a great son, calm, cute, brilliant, outstanding footballer, and a gentle and loving soul.

He also shared that his son was an angel who had made his mark in his short time on Earth.

Controversial actor, Yul Edochie has told netizens’ to allow the famous Nigerian music duo, P-Square, to stay apart if they wish.

Yul said this while reacting to the ongoing feud between the twin pop stars.

DAILY POST reports that Rudeboy recently announced that P-Square has broken up again for the second time barely three years after they reunited.

P-Square consisting of Rudeboy and his twin brother, Mr P, first split in 2016 but reunited in 2021.

Following the development, Nigerians, including Peter Obi, have been calling for their reconciliation.
