It is essential for early childhood programs to employ teachers who are specially prepared to work with young children. This course focuses on wellness in the early childhood setting. Christian educators have a professional responsibility and spiritual mandate to minister to the needs of young children through a safe and nurturing environment. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Luke 18:16).

Running head: Part 1 Health and Wellness 1
Part 1 Health and Wellness Project ***** EDUC 215-D Liberty University
Part 1 Health and Wellness 2 Topic I plan to address the issue of childhood obesity for my health and wellness project. Annotated Bibliography Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness and Council on School Health(2006). Active healthy living: Prevention of childhood obesity through increased physical activity. Pediatrics, 117 (5), 1834-1842. Retrieved from go.galegroup/ps/i.do?p=AONE&u=vic_liberty&id=GALE|A146122814&v=2. 1&it=r&sid=summon&userGroup=vic_liberty This article focuses specifically on increasing physical activity among children in school in order to prevent obesity. It discusses different types of exercises, organized sports, and specific programs that children can become involved in to stay healthy. The article also provides age-appropriate recommendations for physical activity for each age group. For the purpose of this project, the information regarding elementary school-aged children will be useful. I also think this article will be useful because it also encourages parents to limit their children’s television time and Internet usage. It then encourages outdoor play and physical activity as an alternative. I plan to discuss this in my project. Jalonick, M. C. (2011). My Plate is in for Healthy Eating. Retrieved April 2, 2016, from rx9vh3hy4r.search.serialssolutions/-2004&ctx_enc=info:ofi/e nc:UTF-8&rfr_id=info:sid/summon.serialssolutions&rft_val_fmt=info:ofi/fmt:kev:m tx:journal&rft=article&rft='My Plate' is in for healthy eating&rft=Gainesville Sun&rft=MARY CLARE JALONICK&rft=2011-06-09&rft=Halifax Media Group&rft=0163-4925&rft=2369822661¶mdict=en-US
Part 1 Health and Wellness 4 prevention and intervention strategies that schools and child-care centers can incorporate. It also explains in depth what teachers and families can do for their students to be involved and proactive. This information will be very useful to incorporate in my project because it will demonstrate exactly what should be done regarding prevention and intervention by the school, teacher, and family. Theodore, L. A., Bray, M. A., & Kehle, T. J. (2009). Introduction to the special issue: Childhood obesity. Psychology in the Schools, 46 (8), 693-694. Retrieved April 2, 2016, from content.ebscohost/ContentServer.asp?T=P&P=AN&K=43595808&S=R&D=e hh&EbscoContent=dGJyMNHX8kSeprA4v%2BbwOLCmr06ep7JSsKu4S7CWxWXS& ContentCustomer=dGJyMOrf4H3w6vdT69fnhrnb5ofx6gAA This article will be useful for my project because it specifically discusses the negative effects of childhood obesity. There are many negative effects plaguing America’s children due to childhood obesity and these effects range from physical to psychosocial. The article discusses how schools and teachers have great influence and potential to help rid childhood obesity. This article can be used to show parents why obesity is so devastating and help them become aware and knowledgeable of the subject. So that in turn, schools, teachers, and parents can partner together to reduce childhood obesity’s prevalence.
